5 things to match when pairing a bed frame and mattress
1. The size system
Singapore, Japan and UK sizes differ in width and length, so the mattress and frame must use the same system. A Queen (UK) mattress is 10cm longer than a Queen (SG) frame. See every size in our mattress size guide.
If you choose a Japan-size bed frame, pick a mattress that comes in Japan sizes. Every Nuloft mattress does.
2. Mattress thickness
Most of our storage beds suit mattresses up to about 12 inches (30cm). Our thickest mattresses, the 35cm Nuloft Luxe Pro and Nuloft Serenite, need a frame that can take them, or a customised storage bed. Tell us when you order and we’ll check.
3. Final bed height
Add the base height to the mattress thickness. A 40.5cm storage base with a 28cm mattress makes a bed about 68cm high, which suits most adults. For a lower bed, pair a low frame or 11 inch storage base with a slimmer mattress. Our storage bed frame guide explains the heights.
4. Weight, if it’s a storage bed
The hydraulic lifts on our storage beds handle the weight of a full mattress. If you want the base as light as possible to lift, a slimmer mattress such as the 20cm Nuloft Lite helps.
5. The look
A tall upholstered headboard pairs well with a plush, pillow-top mattress. A low Japanese wooden frame looks best with a slimmer mattress, so the bed stays low and simple.
