Most Singapore homes aren’t perfectly square. Floor skirting, a beam across the ceiling, a wall that’s just a few centimetres too short: any of these can leave an off-the-shelf wardrobe looking awkward or not fitting at all. A custom wardrobe solves that. Here’s what you can customise, how the process works, and how to plan a wardrobe that fits your room.

What is a custom (modular) wardrobe?
A modular wardrobe is built from standard sections, so it can be adjusted to your space and your storage needs. At BEDANDBASICS, most of our modular wardrobes are made to order and can be customised to fit your room. Customisation is quoted separately, and you get the quote before any work begins.
9 things you can customise
Most homes have odd corners. These customisations are available on most of our modular wardrobes, and are quoted separately based on your room.
1. Made to your exact size
Tell us the width of your wall and we’ll make the wardrobe to fit it, wall to wall.
2. Fits around skirting
Floor or wall skirting? We notch the wardrobe around it, so it sits flush against the wall.
3. Odd beams & uneven ceilings
We cut the top compartment to wrap around beams and build up close to the ceiling, so the wardrobe looks like one connected piece with no awkward gaps.
4. More doors for wider wardrobes
Wardrobes from 4ft to 8ft come with 2 sliding doors. From 8ft and above, we can fit 3 sliding doors instead for easier access.
5. Auto-sensor LED lighting
Lights switch on by themselves when you open the wardrobe, so you can always see what you need.
6. Plan your own layout
Mix hanging space, shelves and lockable drawers, or add a dresser with mirror, a glass display case or a jewellery drawer.

7. Pick your finishes
Choose your wood colour, frame colour and glass.
8. Soft-closing doors & drawers
Upgrade to soft-closing sliding doors that brake gently before they close, and drawers that shut quietly.
9. Curved edges & corners
Ask for rounded corners on the side panels for a softer, more premium look.

How to measure for a wardrobe
- Width: measure the wall at floor level, at waist height and near the ceiling. Use the smallest number.
- Height: measure from the floor to the ceiling at both ends and in the middle. Ceilings are rarely perfectly level.
- Depth: allow about 60cm for a wardrobe with hanging space, plus room in front for sliding doors or swing doors to open.
- Obstacles: note skirting height, beams, power points, switches, aircon trunking and window frames.
- Photos: take a straight-on photo of the wall and close-ups of any skirting or beams. These help us quote accurately.
Sliding or swing doors?
| Sliding doors | Swing doors | |
|---|---|---|
| Space needed | None in front; doors slide along the track | Room in front for doors to swing open |
| Access | One section at a time | The whole wardrobe at once |
| Best for | Smaller bedrooms, beds close to the wardrobe | Larger rooms, walk-in style access |
| Examples | Jamal, Karl, Henson | Vinci soft-closing swing door wardrobe |
In most HDB bedrooms, where the bed sits close to the wardrobe, sliding doors are the practical choice.

FAQ
Can a wardrobe be made to fit around skirting?
Yes. We notch the wardrobe around floor or wall skirting so it sits flush against the wall.
Is customisation included in the price?
No. Customisation is quoted separately based on your room, and you get the quote before any work begins.
How long does a custom wardrobe take?
Once your order is confirmed, made-to-order wardrobes usually take about 14 working days.
Can you build a wardrobe up to the ceiling?
Yes. We can build it up close to the ceiling and around beams, so there’s no awkward gap on top.
Do I need to measure the room myself?
Your measurements and photos let us give you a quote. Measure width and height in a few places, and photograph any skirting, beams or power points.
